The Constitution does not mention, in any way, shape or fashion, anything whatsoever about the parents of the president (or anyone else, for that matter). There is nothing in the laws of the US that requires anything about the parentage of candidates.

The text of Article II is as follows:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Not a word there about parents. Article II Section 1 does say that president must be a "natural born" citizen, in contrast to Senators and Representatives, who only need to have been citizens for nine and seven years respectively. Exactly what makes a citizen was not defined until 1868 in the 14th Amendment, which gives citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States." Again, no mention of parents.

People will be more likely to take you seriously if you take the time to get your facts straight.Jarl Von Hootherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03149976943411018667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4610465468454701823.post-88986023450695635232009-08-22T02:26:42.736-04:002009-08-22T02:26:42.736-04:00Would you be kind enough to show us where, in the ...Would you be kind enough to show us where, in the Constitution, it is said that a persons parents must be citizens of the US in order for their child to be a natural born citizen?

Go ahead, I'll wait.

No?
